THE ASTROLOGY OF 2012 - it's not the end of the world!
As someone interested in the bigger picture, you can't have failed to pick up all the internet and media speculation about 2012 and the supposed "end of the world", so you'll know why I'm talking about the hype surrounding 2012 well in advance.
Firstly, it helps to have an astrological view of that period in order to put it into its proper perspective. Secondly, my aim is to help disperse or at least neutralise some of the deliberately instilled fear, doubt and uncertainty swirling around us.
Now, I am not saying that I or any other qualified astrologer knows better than anyone else what precisely will be occurring around December 21st 2012. What we can offer is perspective of global development based on outer planetary cycles, exact timings and how they've actually manifested previously.
Notice that nearly all the visions of the apocalypse are negative and catastrophic. This does not have to be the assumption. Scientific research is bringing us radically new ways to understand and shape the hologram of the universe through activating the DNA of our body and mind. Only 2 days ago, it was announced that groundbreaking new research into neutrons promises to give hints of new dimensions and dark matter. Read scientist Bruce Lipton's groundbreaking work "The Biology of Belief" for more information. Through the lens of empirical astrology and human experiences linked to planetary changes over 3 millennia, we can understand that we are in the birth pangs of a shift in culture comparable to the move to industrialism 200 years ago. This is an accelerated period of human evolution not an end time caused by outside supernatural forces.
Humanity's fascination with Apocalyptic Theories
From Babylonian times onwards, there have been innumerable periods in human history when people were led to believe that the end of the word was upon them. This time, the context is different. We have access to a global internet, personal networks and are influenced 24/7 by millions of bytes of "information" or input. Ideas go viral in minutes affecting people's beliefs and therefore their behaviour. The derivation of the term "apocalypse" actually means the revealing of secret spiritual wisdom to the masses leading to the breakdown of religious authority reliant on wealth, power and secrecy. Which in days gone by would have signified "the End" to the religious powerbrokers.
There are several factors involved in this feeding frenzy predicting an apocalypse. As always, everything is always over-formed (has multiple causes):
- the Mayan Calendar and its "translators"
- Nostradamus' prophecies
- end time Christians
- Native American and Tibetan prophecies
- the theory that there will be a geomagnetic pole reversal caused by solar flares
- a 12th planet " Nibiru" coming close to the earth
- the current global events economic, political and the force of nature.
- humanity's fascination with millenialism

The Mayan Long Count Calendar became widely reported in New Age circles after 1987 's Harmonic Convergence when Jose Arguelles started teaching about it. December 2012 supposedly marks the end of the calendar for the human race. However, most Mayan scholars have dismissed his theory outright, since classic Mayan scripts refer to many dates beyond the 13th Bak'tun date of 21st December 2012 and most Mayan writings were historical, not predictive.
In the 16th century, French seer Nostradamus made many predictions, one of which was the date of the death of the "final Pope" in the early 21st century. It's vital to consider the context in which he lived. Back then the Pope was the most important person on earth, God's representative, so the idea of not having a Pope was terrifying. Astrologically, as we enter the Age of Aquarius over a period of many hundreds of years according to precession, the movement of Neptune and Chiron through Pisces may well indicate the gradual dissolution of the Catholic Church. All forms change and disappear over time.
The End Time
There is a core of Christian Old Testament followers who believe that we are approaching the End Time. They base this on the Book of Revelations, the mark of the Beast heralding the Anti-Christ (some of whom believe that it is President Obama) and the arrival of false prophets. Armageddon will arise as a result of the battles between the Israelis and the Palestinians. Christ will return to earth and raise up those who believe. I am not saying that these beliefs can be proved wrong but pointing out that that's what they are - simply beliefs. Every culture around the globe has its own beliefs.
The Confluence of Native American and Tibetan Prophecies
The Indian Hopi/Tibetan prophecies are remarkably similar:
The Hopi Prophecy
"When the iron eagle flies
and the horses have wheels
Our long lost brother will return
from the East"
The Tibetan Prophecy
"When the iron eagle flies the sky
and stone bridges cover rivers
horses with wheels will run on roads
East will meet West
Red People will meet Red People
At that time my teachings will benefit the world".
Since 1974 when the first Tibetan visited the Hopi people, meetings have continued. The original Hopi prophecy predicted World Wars 1 and 11 and forecast an axial shift in our time.
Niburu
Supposedly the "12th planet" whose people created the earth and all humankind as an experiment. Apparently, there have already been 2 "failed" earths. The Niburans are currently working on our DNA to move us through time via the Galactic super wave when the earth crosses the Galactic Equator.
Current Earth Events
The apparent unstoppable increase in natural disasters (earthquakes, tsunamis and volcanoes) coupled with global issues such as poverty, illness, terrorism and economics are so complex that no one government can solve them. Add to these other multiple trends such as the end of petrol, global food shortages as a result of climate change and the effects of huge solar eruptions and it becomes crystal clear we cannot continue to live as we do presently. The situation is so complex that no one understands it. World leaders are not dealing with structural issues but attempting to re-boot the old system. The financial markets carry within them what Warren Buffet calls "financial weapons of mass destruction" i.e. a literally unquantifiable amount of casino type investments on derivatives with no value.

The Astrology of December 21st 2012
In order to put the astrology of December 21st into perspective, we need to follow the trail of eclipses leading up to it. We also need to understand the ongoing shifts being created as Uranus and Pluto square each other (7 times between 2012 - 2015).
The Uranus/Pluto squares begin this year in June 2011, starting us on a radically new path. Up to now, the astrology of the Cardinal Cross (2009 - 2010) has impacted our individual lives rather than the world as leaders are still trying to keep old systems in place. From 2012, this will no longer be possible.
The Pluto/Uranus squares resonate through time with the early Thirties, bringing to mind the effects of the Great Depression, the rise of Nazism and the dustbowl years. Remember that astrology never ever repeats itself. It also brings to a whole new phase the 1962/3 initiating Uranus/Pluto conjunction in Virgo, when we experienced the rise of political radicalism, a growing search for previously hidden spiritual knowledge and the repudiation of old forms of authority. People born in the early to mid sixties with a natal Pluto/Uranus conjunction are now in mid-life with these natal energies being re- triggered. They are the ones attuned to the energies of constant transformation.
As the squares are from Aries to Capricorn, action is called for. Responses to world crises will have to be galvanised.
The eclipses through 2012 fall across the Mutable axis of Sagittarius/Gemini, having shifted from the 2009/2010 Cardinal crisis. The Mutable signs are: Gemini/Virgo/Sagittarius/Pisces. Mutable energy is inherently less stable than Fixed or Cardinal. It is ever changing, responsive, questing. The Mutable Cross produces the conditioning circumstance which transform the animal human into an aspirant. This arises from response to circumstances.
Some specific circumstances could involve:
- food chains broken due to climate changes and economic collapse
- limited car travel
- local bartering
- increase in hands on work and self-employment
- protectionism
- breakdowns in global technology
- scientific breakthroughs
The Solar eclipse on June 4th 2012 seems to be the most impactful of the year. June 2012 looks like being a definite turning point. Remember that Solar eclipses bring fated events from the outside. Look to 1 month either side of the exact eclipse date for these to occur. Two days later on June 6th, there is also the once in 8 year trip of Venus in Gemini crossing the face of the Sun. Gemini Venus/Sun transits are seen as presaging advances in communications and shrinking the global village.

There is a very powerful Grand Mutable Cross involving Mars/ Jupiter/Lilith/the Nodes/the Sun/ the Moon/Chiron/Neptune all in frictional aspects to each other. Black Moon Lilith considered to be a "nodal" point of fate is conjuncting the South Node of self-sabotage and opposing the Moon. Outside the Grand Cross and cutting across it are Uranus and Pluto square each other in a tight aspect. Saturn isolated in Libra makes only one aspect which makes this Cross very unstable indeed. A Grand Cross is a self-contained system which feeds on itself. Once the mutable momentum has started there are few ways to rein it in. The key word here is instability.
Solar Eclipse 28 November 2012
By now the Nodal Axis is across Taurus, a Fixed earth sign and conjunct Caput Algol, the most feared Fixed Star in ancient times, now seen as a portal point for change. There are also 2 Yods or Fingers of God aspects from Mars/Pluto and Saturn quincunxing the Moon and Black Moon Lilith. Quincunxes make us feel uncertain and wobbly with emotions triggered by the base of the triangle planets being projected on to the receiving planets. Since these are the Moon and Black Moon Lilith our fears will be magnified. There are 2 Mutable T-squares both with Neptune/Chiron as their focal point symbolising the need for healing and compassion during a period of sacrifice.
December 21st 2012 Chart
This is the exact time of the Winter Solstice in the Northern hemisphere and the day the world is supposed to end. What can we see? A Yod from Pluto semi-sextile Saturn across to Jupiter. Jupiter in Gemini could bring scientific and technological advances. Saturn and Pluto re-enforce the absolute need for more practical ways of doing things. Venus is trining both Uranus and the Moon in fire signs. Whatever upheavals have taken place are apparently for the better. Neptune/Chiron are the focal planets once more so we look to the opposite degree to find a way through. This is in early Virgo: another leitmotif of attention to details and practicality. The Sun right on the World Axis squares Uranus as does Pluto. Change is writ large but no more than we will already have experienced in June 2012.See it as a stage of transformation, not an ending.
Precession
According to some astrologers and forecasters of the apocalypse, December 21st 2012 is the exact day when the Sun crosses the Galactic equator, ushering in the age of Aquarius. The Sun and planets lie along the same degree of the ecliptic. Every 2600 years the zodiac signs appear to change going backwards through the signs.
However, since the Sun is half a degree wide it takes 36 years for it to move across one point. Which means that it doesn't happen at an exact time or on a specific date. More importantly, the Galactic Equator is an entirely arbitrary line which can never be drawn because of the impossibility of finding the Milky Way's boundaries.
Free Will and Multiple Change Points
We should never forget that events are beget by actions and that all of us have free will. Nothing is determined in advance. Astrology provides the cosmic weather forecast so that we can make considered choices through understanding all the options. What December 2012 will mean depends on the actions we take now. Everything is multi-layered. Tipping points, saddle points and bifurcations will occur, to use the language of chaos theory. There is so much more to analyse on the road to the end of 2012 and I will be writing in much more depth about the astrology of the next few years as we travel through 2011 and beyond.
